Feature · Good Rotation Meals

Plan the meal against the kitchen you actually have.

Meal planning should reduce decisions, not create a calendar that ignores the fridge. Good Rotation connects each plan to recipe fit and the active grocery list.

The short version

  • Schedule an optional local date and optional local time—never a forced daypart.
  • Scale recipe ingredients and fit together for the target servings.
  • Keep meal choice, missing-item review, shopping, and cooking connected.

Meals stay flexible

Add a meal idea in free text or choose a saved Recipe. Give it a date when the household knows the date and a local time when timing matters. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner buckets are not required.

Today’s timed meals lead, flexible plans remain visible, and anything that slipped can be rescheduled without pretending it happened.

Recipe fit is part of planning

A saved Recipe carries structured ingredients, servings, and conservative fit evidence from Food. Changing the target servings changes both ingredient quantities and the coverage calculation.

Covered, missing, and check-first states stay distinct. A household can verify an uncertain shelf item instead of rebuying it or discovering the gap mid-cook.

Groceries receive the confirmed gap

The grocery review consolidates items for the active list, preserves recipe choices, and groups confirmed purchases by household store sections. Existing Food should not appear as a missing item unless the evidence says it is unavailable or insufficient.

Checked items remain usable without a connection after the list loads. After shopping, put-away focuses on the exceptions that need a location, merge choice, or correction.

Planning ends at the stove

Starting cooking creates one active household session with pinned recipe steps and serving context. Guided steps, timers, and Chef stay tied to that meal. Completion records the meal and offers post-cook Food cleanup.

This closes the loop that many planners leave open: what was planned changes what remains in the kitchen.

Frequently asked questions

Does Good Rotation require breakfast, lunch, or dinner slots?

No. A meal can have an optional local date and optional local time. It does not require a breakfast, lunch, or dinner bucket.

Can a meal plan use recipes I already saved?

Yes. Meals can point to saved Recipes, while free-text meal ideas remain available when the household has not chosen a recipe.

Does the grocery list account for pantry inventory?

Yes. The review uses recipe-fit evidence from Food, keeps uncertain coverage separate, and adds the confirmed missing items to the active consolidated list.
